the good, the bad and the obviously mad

49th Funchal's Book Fair, Avenida Arriaga, Funchal, Madeira, Portugal (2023)

"the good, the bad and the obviously mad" presents a set of characters/pieces built based on traditional character traces collected from diverse children's tales and fables, with an aim to investigate the moral question that has shaped most of these stories:

what does is it mean to be “good” or “bad”?

It is undeniable that, as we grow up, the separation of these two “ways of being” becomes gradually more complex. No one is effectively and completely “good” or “bad”. This new way of seeing and believing in what surrounds us, then, triggers several moments of questioning. Was the Wolf really bad or was he just hungry? Did the Puss in Boots act in an absolutely ethical way or did he let greed speak louder?

Four interactive sculptures with casters represent protagonists (or heroes) and antagonists (or villains) to expand on these definitions, giving the public the power to decide who is who; to create their own story and define their own moral lessons by moving the characters about, in order to develop new dispositions and, consequently, new chronicles.
